Why should I enrol my child?
Like existing preschool programs, full-day Early Education will remain optional for three- and four-year-olds.
Children who participate in full-day early learning get a solid foundation for future learning.
In full-day early learning, your child will benefit from:
-
A stronger start in school
A full day of learning early in life can help improve your child's reading, writing and math skills and provide a strong foundation for future learning. It also makes the transition to Kindergarten easier for both you and your child. When the introduction to school is an enjoyable experience, your child is naturally inclined to learn and will be eager to be part of the school experience. -
More time with classmates
During the regular school day, your child will benefit from being able to socialize with other children and develop the academic and social skills necessary for future success. In addition, the program running before and after school hours will complement what your child learns and does during the regular school day. -
A seamless and integrated day
-
Your child will remain in familiar surroundings with staff and friends, rather than moving between different programs and locations.
Full Day Early Learning Program
Play is a vehicle for learning and lies at the core of innovation and creativity.
It provides opportunities for learning in a context in which children are at their most receptive. Play and academic work are not distinct categories for young children, and learning and doing are also inextricably linked for them.
Effective Full-Day Early Learning classrooms make use of play and embed opportunities for learning through play in the physical environment and play activities. Both child-initiated free play and more structured play-based learning opportunities should be integral parts of the early learning classroom. Children are offered choices of learning activities that reflect their developmental stages. The learning activities are designed by the Early Learning team to encourage the children to think creatively, to explore and investigate, to solve problems and engage in the inquiry process, and to share their learning with others.
It has long been acknowledged that there is a strong link between play and learning for young children, especially in the areas of problem solving, language acquisition, literacy, numeracy, and social, physical, and emotional skills. Young children actively explore their environment and the world around them through a process of learning-based play. When children are manipulating objects, acting out roles, or experimenting with various materials, they are engaged in learning through play. Play, therefore, has a legitimate and important role in early learning and can be used to further children’s learning in all areas of the Full-Day Early Learning program.
